The Mayor’s Office of the National Western Center Celebrates Inaugural Year of the Mentor Protégé Program

News Release from the Mayor’s Office of the National Western Center

The Mayor’s Office of the National Western Center successfully participated in the inaugural year of the Mentor Protégé program that is managed by the Denver Economic Development and Opportunity (DEDO) Division of Small Business Opportunity (DSBO) and supports the city’s commitment to expand the capacity of minority- and women-owned businesses (M/WBE). In support of that commitment, the citywide Mentor Protégé program matches larger firms with M/WBEs to assist small companies in developing the necessary skills to scale their businesses and gain educational and networking opportunities directly from participating city departments and agencies.

This year, NWCO supported the Mentor Protégé partnership between Hensel Phelps Construction as a mentor, Sky Blue Builders as a mentor and protégé and True Crew Insulation as a protégé. NWCO was grateful for the opportunity to connect with each organization at different levels and help support their company goals and future business opportunities.

“Hensel Phelps Construction, Sky Blue Builders and True Crew Insulation were engaged participants and leaders in the 2020-2021 Mentor-Protégé pilot program. They engaged the National Western Center program team with questions and suggestions and helped create a collaborative and learning environment as the team collectively worked to address company and city barriers, but also MWBE industry challenges as a whole.  Thank you for your leadership and partnership.” Tykus Holloway, Executive Director

NWCO is honored to be part of the inaugural year of the Mentor Protégé Program and we look forward to continuing with this program in the future.
