Placemaking

In July 2017, MIG was selected to lead the Placemaking Study for the National Western Center (NWC). The Study will provide a refined framework for all future development on the site, including the public spaces and how the site will stitch together the surrounding neighborhoods with great streets, exciting public spaces, public art and a vibrant mix of uses to complement the NWC’s goals of world-class entertainment, experiential learning and research and agribusiness

The Placemaking Team is currently gathering input about the future site, including how the site should look and feel and how the public areas of the new center will be used. This input will help create a year-round destination that connects communities through education, entertainment, history and culture.

WHAT IS PLACEMAKING?

Placemaking is a people-centered approach to planning and designing public spaces that reflects the needs, desires and aspirations of the community. It strengthens site design by considering existing, historic and future identities to make public space meaningful, useful, and vibrant for to its current and future users.

As we work to transform the National Western Center into a site where people and experiences converge to create a global destination for agricultural heritage and innovation, the Placemaking Team is working diligently to gather insight from the local community and current and future users to find out what you want to DO here, how you want to FEEL here and what you want to SEE in this vibrant, versatile space. Whatever your vision is, we want to hear it.
