51st Avenue Bridge
As part of the National Western Center Campus Plan, the bridge at 51st Avenue will connect National Western Drive to Washington Street and will create new access to the Globeville neighborhood.
Construction for the Bridge and Levee work is underway and being managed by the Horizontal Integrated Contractor (HIC) for the National Western Center, Hensel Phelps and prime subcontractor Ames Construction.
In conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of the National Western Center, the HIC team has created a pilot workforce development program to connect individuals to industry jobs for the HIC project. The pilot program includes outreach, training and employment opportunities.
By connecting industry and job seekers to the NWC program, we are hoping to support the construction industry, build a qualified workforce, enrich the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents through better jobs and additional skills. - Three span bridge with two piers
- Length of bridge is 257 ft
- Width of bridge is 62 ft
- Two 13 ft lanes and 10 ft median/turn lane
- Shared use path on each side (bike and pedestrian)
- Pedestrian lighting on each side of the bridge as well as street lighting

The 51st Avenue Bridge is the first component to a phased approach to re-envisioning 80 acres of city property and existing open space surrounding the National Western Center Campus at Heron Pond, Heller Open Space and Carpio Sanguinette Park. The entire area will become a regional asset as one of the largest remaining open spaces along the South Platte River in Denver.
